拍品專文

Born in 1856 in the Danish town of Randers, Johan Rohde began his artistic career as a painter, graphic artist, and designer, achieving success by the late 1880's with exhibitions in Denmark and Germany. Rohde's initial collaboration with Jensen was in 1905 when he commissioned Jensen to execute his design for a tea service. Following the success of this collaboration, Rohde became a permanent designer for the Jensen silversmithy in 1907, creating simple modern works that emphasized form and line in contrast to Georg Jensen's more exuberantly decorated designs. While Jensen and Rohde were the lead designers in the early years of the firm, the success of this collaboration opened the door for new designers and styles in the future.

Examples of this model have previously sold at Christie's, New York, 10 April 2018, lot 207, and Christie's, London, 30-31 May 2012, lot 212.
