拍品專文

Achille Murat (1801-1847) was the son of Joachim Murat, King of Naples and brother-in-law of Napoleon. The young crown prince Achille spent his childhood in Austria after his father was executed follwing Napoleon's fall. In 1821 Achille immigrated to the United States and settled in St. Augustine, Florida. He returned to France in 1830 in hopes of recovering his family's fortune but eventually returned to the Americas five years later. He purchased a sugarcane plantation in Louisiana but after having financial troubles he moved to northern Florida, where he died in 1847.
