Lot Essay

Alexandre Guérin worked as a bronzier in St. Petersburg in the first half of the 19th century. His sophisticated Empire style closely related to French designs, and his price list of 1831 shows various fashionable models, many closely inspired by the work of Pierre-Philippe Thomire. (I. Sychev, Russian Bronze, Moscow, 2003, p. 111). The workshop was purchased by Félix Chopin who was the son of the Parisian fondeur Julien Chopin in 1848.
