Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall in good decorative condition, structurally sound, and ready to place. The marble top with some minor natural inclusions, surface scratches, and 'nibbling' to the edges as to be expected, with some minor infill to the back edge and small chip to right edge towards the back. A 2x2 in. section of marble re-attached at the front left corner with associated fill in the joins. The veneer with some minor shrinkage cracks at construction joints, for example in the border of the central door above the marquetry panel. The underside slightly separated from the back though secure on the sides and front, and only visible from interior and back. The central marquetry panel with minor areas of warping. With typical minor signs of old wood worm, now inactive, localized to the upper paneling on the reverse of the carcass. The ormolu with some wear and rubbing consistent with age and use, as well as some surface dirt as to be expected. Could do with a good cleaning. Some of the ormolu borders slightly separating from the body, though secure. With one key. End of key currently off but retained. Key only worked for drawer locks, not for main door lock.
