Overall with some scuffs and scratches consistent with age and use, would benefit from a good cleaning overall, most of the monograms on the mother-of-pearl handles colored blue, possibly original, the monograms on the mother-of-pearl with some wear overall, some more so than others so almost completely worn off, the mother-of-pearl in general lightly dried and worn with some areas of rubbing.
Some spoons slightly thin at the sides and with some tiny nicks to the edges of the bowl, a few tablespoons with bowls slightly out of round.
The forks with some tines not quite straight and even and some ends slightly worn down, two dinner forks with the silver collar at the top of the mother-of-pearl handle loose, though secure, and one of those with the back of the collar bent down slightly, three luncheon forks with the silver collar at the top of the mother-of-pearl handle loose, though secure, and one with some very minor losses to the mother-of-pearl underneath the collar, visible only when the collar is loosened, one luncheon fork with a section of loss to the silver collar.
The dinner knives and luncheon knives all with Touron steel blades, the blades with some areas of rust and residue, some more so than others, the fish knives and fruit knives with silver blades, as noted one fruit knife with a slightly shorter mother-of-pearl handle and longer blade, lacking a monogram, the silver collar chased with swirls, the blade stamped GORHAM M.F.G. CO.
Marked throughout on the back with retailers mark for Touron and on the fork heads and spoon bowls with the French Minerva mark used post 1838 and the maker's mark, the steel blades with TOURON, PARIS / 24 RUE DE LA PAIX, the silver blades with the French Minerva mark, maker's mark, and TOURON.
The chest of black leather with three lift-out fitted trays lined with beige felt, the felt overall with wear and tears, the box with cover, front, and right side detached from the base, back, back hinge, and left side, with overall wear and water damage, with three additional boxes, one fitted for twelve of the dinner knives in black leather and lined with red felt, one fitted for the fruit forks and fruit knives with a lift out tray, in black leather and lined with light brown felt, the third fitted for twelve of the dinner forks in black leather and lined with chocolate brown felt, all three boxes with some minor wear and fading to the felt interiors, and some wear, fading, nicks, and scratches to the leather exteriors, the box for the dinner forks with the left side of the cover slightly detached at the back, all three boxes and the chest from Touron.
