The firm of Boin-Taburet was first established in Paris in 1860 by goldsmith and antique dealer Georges Boin and jeweler Emile Taburet. Though they at first specialized in the production of object of vertu and jewelry, they eventually moved into Louis XIV and Louis XV style silver wares, as well as the retailing of other pieces of furniture and silver, before Emile Taburet retired in 1900. A nearly identical example to the present lot was sold at Christie's, Amsterdam, 10-11 December 2003, lot 609.
