The crest on the handle of the present lot is that of Thynne and the arms in the center are those of Thynne impaling Master with another in pretence, for Lord John Thynne, later 3rd Baron Carteret and his wife Mary Ann (1777 - 1863), daughter of Thomas Master (1744 - 1823), of The Abbey, Cirencester and Knole Park, Bristol.

Peter Archambo (1699 - 1759) was born in England to the Huguenot refugee Archambault family from France. Apprenticed in 1710 to the noted Huguenot goldsmith Jacob Margas (1677 - c. 1750), Archambo entered his first mark as a largeworker in 1721. A nearly identical basket by Archambo dated 1736 engraved with the arms of Sir Henry Northcote, 5th Baronet (1710 - 1743) was sold in Early English Silver from the Collection of the Late Charles L. Poor, Sotheby's, New York, 26 October 2005, lot 50.
