The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall in good order and appearance, ready to use. As stated in the cataloguing, the sofa has been re-gilt. There are very minor scattered small chips, nicks, and losses to the gilding throughout, commensurate with use. Typical old repairs which are well-disguised. The upholstery with minor marks, light staining and overall minor signs of wear and fading, as to be expected. The sofa is currently fitted underneath with metal cross-braces; a feature added in the Victorian era when chairs were upholstered with springs. As stated, the rails were not fully examined beneath the upholstery but the visible portions are consistent with 18th century manufacture.
