Lot Essay

Rococo style pierced cake baskets, which served as the model for the present lot, were a staple product of gold and silversmiths of the 1730s through the 1750s. A nearly identical example by William Cripps dated 1743 is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London (Acc. No. M.292-1976).
