Lot Essay

Franz Ludwig Carl Bohnstedt's (1822-1885) design for the Reichstag building, depicted here, won first prize in the 1872 architectural competition. Unfortunately, as Bohnstedt was not a native Berliner, his design was not used in the end. In 1884 construction began on Johann Paul Wallot's architectural design.
