Lot Essay

The present works were painted as a calendar series for the Shaw-Barton Company, an advertising firm based in Coshocton, Ohio. Known for its production of popular calendars which often explored themes of patriotism and genteel humor, The Shaw-Barton company employed leading illustrators of the day to paint their calendars, such as the present works by Hy Hintermeister.
