Lot Essay

A very similar mirror was sold anonymously at Christies, New York, 8 April 2004, lot 248. That mirror was possibly one of a pair from the Estate of Lillian S. Whitmarsh, sold Parke-Bernet Galleries, 7-8 April 1961, lots 353-354 and subsequently, James Donahue, sold Parke-Bernet, 2-4 November 1967, lot 582. Another mirror of similar design is illustrated in The Knight of Glin, Irish Furniture, 1978, fig.35. For another strikingly similar example, see The Property of a Lady, Christie's, New York, 22 April 1995, lot 365 ($34,500).
