AN IRISH GEORGE II WHITE-PAINTED OVERMANTEL MIRROR
In the 17th century Harvey Morres, a member of parliament for the village of Knocktopher in County Kilkenny, Ireland, received a land grant in an area known as Diore Lia. His son, Francis Morres, commissioned the popular Irish architect and painter Francis Bindon to design one of the largest stately homes in the country. It was completed in 1751 and named Castle Morres.
Castle Morres was sold to the Land Commission by 1924 and was ultimately dismantled in the 1930s. The present lot was among the pieces that were salvaged. The remaining ruins of the house were completely demolished in 1978.

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Nice scale and overall in good order. With general wear and scattered chips and losses to carved and later white painted surfaces revealing the previous grey/green paint underneath and bare wood in areas commensurate with age and use. Mirror plate apparently original with minor surface scratches, losses to silvering, foxing, and marks throughout. Some shrinkage and minor separation at joints but overall sturdy.
