Lot Essay

Kenneth Price was an American artist and ceramic sculptor. Price’s fantastical and biomorphic works resembling surreal blobs and cups found inspiration in erotica, Mexican-folk pottery, geology and surf culture.
Price studied at the Chouinard Art Institute and under Peter Voulkos at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, before receiving a BFA from the University of Southern California and a MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. His works are in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., amongst other institutions.
