The circular glazed enameled dial with Roman and Arabic numerals signed J. B. DU. TERTRE A PARIS, with a pierced drum case with engraved foliate panels wrapped overall with acanthus, C-scrolls and foliage and surmounted by a conforming acanthus scroll cartouche centered by a rose, the glazed base with further C-scrolls and acanthus, the case stamped OSMOND, possibly later applied

Jean-Baptiste Dutertre, maître in 1735.
Robert Osmond, maître in 1746.
The design for this cartel, attributed to either Robert Osmond or Pierre-Antoine Foullet and now in the Bibliothèque Doucet, Paris (illustrated in H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, p. 184, fig. 3.8.8.), is thought to have been taken up by Robert Osmond between 1755 and 1760.
A virtually identical cartel clock signed attributed to Robert Osmond and also with a movement by Dutertre was sold Christie's, London, 11 June 1998 (£17,250) and a further example is illustrated in H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel op.cit., Munich, 1986, p. 542, fig. 2.
