The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall in excellent condition and well preserved, well restored, and in ready to display. The chains and hooks on all pieces probably later. Much of the restoration is well disguised.
Tops
The tops have apparently been restored overall with later metal armature and a later plaster coating to the insides of both indicating a complex restoration. The tops retaining bits of darker paint, indicating they may have been painted to resemble bronze. Restorations to where the metal rings are embedded into the tops.
Bottom with Figure of Death
With multiple repairs to the terracotta overall, with multiple chips and rubbed losses, with multiple areas of retouching to the patination of the terracotta. The figure of death missing his proper left hand. The Athenian cresting with multiple repairs. All three figures with areas of retouching to the surfaces. Some discolored inpainted repairs overall. The figure to the left of Death with losses to his legs and face (reconstructed with plaster). The busts on the lower section with multiple chipped losses, small restoration and inpainted repairs.
