The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The caryatid uprights with variations to carving, each with their own beautiful and distinct face. Overall each of the uprights has the typical scattered chips, nicks, surface scratches, and minor nibbling throughout commensurate with age and use. With subtle bruising most notably beneath the robes and feet. Signs of old restorations and scattered areas with well-matched infill throughout. Additional specific notes for each upright are below, please also note the above overall statement applies to all four upright.:
Upright A:
With an old well-disguised repaired break to the neck of the caryatid. Chip to proper left corner of the base beneath the feet.
Upright B:
With small chips to the corners of the square platform beneath the robes. The section above the feet with signs of having been previously re-secured. A chip to the proper left corner of the platform beneath the feet.
Upright C:
The neck of the caryatid with an old repaired break. A small loss to the proper right corner at the platform beneath the robes.
Upright D:
With a loss to the proper right corner of the platform beneath the robes.
The later marble tops with some surface discoloration and marks, as well as typical tiny chips and nicks throughout, visible in catalogue images. A slender wood bracket has been affixed to the bottom edge of each to aide in securing to the wall for display, this can be removed by the department upon request. The black slate plinths and feet with scattered marks, nicks, scuffs, and surface scratches throughout.
