Lot Essay

The engraved coat-of-arms is that of Campbell quartering Gordon and Lorn, almost certainly for Archibald Campbell (1777 - 1845) of Lochnell Castle, county Argyle. The castle and estates stayed in the Campbell family until 1912 when they were purchased by the Cochrane family. The castle is now the seat of the Earls of Dundonald.
