The coat-of-arms found on the present lot are those of Antrobus, for Sir Edmund Antrobus, F.R.S., F.S.A., 1st Bt. of Amesbury Abbey, Wiltshire. Born in Congleton, Cheshire, in 1752, Edmund's father Philip Antrobus was involved in the dying business, as well as the mayor of Congleton three times. Philip was able to use his connections to gain Edmunt a possition at Coutts bank, where he gained the trust and respect of its founder, Thomas Coutts, and was later made partner and appeared as an executor in his will. With his increasing wealth Edmund was able to buy back the family seat, Antrobus Hall, which had been sold by his ancestor Henry Antrobus in 1460. This land included Stonehenge, which was auctioned off, along with other plots of land, in 1915 by a decendent of Edmund's, Sir Cosmo Gordon Antrobus, where it was bought by Cecil Chubb and donated to the nation.
