ESTAMPILLE DE CONRAD MAUTER, DERNIER QUART DU XVIIIe SIECLE
La belle utilisation de l’acajou alliée à des bronzes sobres et élégants sur la présente commode illustre pleinement la finesse du travail de Conrad Mauter. Cet ébéniste d’origine allemande s’installe rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine en 1768. Il produira des meubles pour le compte de grandes résidences comme celles du comte d’Artois. En 1791, la cour lui commande des commodes qui seront livrées pour le château de Saint-Cloud. Après la Révolution, son atelier perdure et se spécialise notamment dans les tables mécaniques. Notre commode n'est pas sans rappeler la production d'un autre célèbre ébéniste Guillaume Benman (vente Christie's Londres, 14 mai 2018, lot 116).

The illustrations on the website are accurate. Good overall condition. Structurally sound. There are the inevitable minor dents, marks, scratches and rubbing consistent with age and use. There are some missing elements to the upper frieze especially to the right front edge. Veneer : there are cracks on the right and left side (the longest approx. 35 cm.) Gilding : there are some very minor traces of tarnishing. Some elements of the upper frieze are missing.
