There are numerous losses to gilding, revealing in areas the gesso underneath and in other areas the wood. Some areas showing the losses to gilding reveal some dark, oxidized areas to the wood, where exposed. Furthermore, there is evidence of some old woodworm galleries in areas, mainly visible where the gilding has lifted. The woodworm appears inactive, and the damages do not affect the stability of the pliant. Apart from the losses and localized chipping to the gilding, there is general rubbing to the gilding revealing some areas where the gilding is less present, however you still see other areas with a nicely burnished gilding. Very little if no regilding at all, or on very minor localized areas only visible under close examination. The pliant legs have a rather nice worn appearance consistent with normal use and wear.
There are some minor losses to the scrolling tip of one foot, here again, extensive wear, untouched, but now showing nice patina built up on the minor loss. As mentioned in the catalogue description, the upholstery reusing 18th Century green silk damask.
