Nysa est l'une des plus anciennes villes de Silésie situee aujourd’hui en Pologne près de la République tchèque. Elle a fait partie du duché de Silésie à la suite du morcellement de la Pologne et des le XIVe siècle, est devenu un important centre commercial et artisanal mais aussi culturel de Pologne, avant de passer sous la suzeraineté de la couronne de Bohême en 1351 jusqu'en 1742. La forme et le style hanséatique de ce tankard s’explique donc par l’importance commercial de la ville et s’apparente aux Hansakannen produites dans les vieilles villes marchandes du nord de l’Allemagne dont Hambourg et Lübeck. Ces chopes apparaissent dès la Renaissance et sont utilisée essentiellement pour boire de la bière, boisson des Burghers.
