Oval, on four bracket feet, with gadrooned borders and two acanthus-capped bracket handles, the centre chased with a band of berried laurel leaves on matted ground and engraved with a coat-of-arms within laurel wreath, military colours and weapon cartouche with inscription beneath, marked on reverse

The inscription reads 'TO RICHARD WOOD ESQ. / THIS TESTIMONIAL OF HIS UNIFORM ZEAL AND ABILITY / IN HIS DISCHARGE OF HIS DUTY / AS LIEUt COLONEL COMMANDANT / OF THE RIPON LOYAL VOLUNTEERS / IS PRESENTED BY / THE COMMITTEE OF SUBSCRIBERS TO THAT CORPS'.

The arms are those of Wood quartering Perkins for Lieut-Colonel Richard Wood (1750-1815) of Hollin Hall, Yorkshiree. He was the son of Richard Wood (1712-1797) of Hollin Hall and his wife Elizabeth (d.1797), daughter of Hutton Perkins, of Mill Hill, co. Middlesex.
