Lot Essay

This highly naturalistic wine cooler, by one of the leading German silversmiths of the late 19th century, is in the Rococo revival style inspired by the work of French 18th century designers and silversmiths such as Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier (1695-1750) whose designs were published and widely disseminated, having been engraved by Gabriel Huquier (1695-1772).
