The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
CASE: The rouge griotte marble plinth with minor nibbles and small losses to the edges. Originally conceived with a glass shade, now lacking, there may well have been a further plinth for the glass to sit in. The gilt-brass frame with various finger marks and tarnishing overall. There are some areas of pitting evident. There is the residue of an old rubber band to the front left foot.
DIAL: The dial is in good overall condition with no visible damage. The hands are very fine, the counterpoise of the minute hand with an interlaced ‘L’. The hands generally clean with mild tarnishing. The seconds hand with slight misshaping and minor tarnishing of the blued steel. The ormolu bezel in good clean state. The rear of the dial plate with various scratch engraved restorers marks: Cette pendule a ete faite par /O. Pelichet pendulier /chez M.E. Piguet a/Nyon en Juillet 1980
Other scratched dates: 1807, 1826 and 1834.
MOVEMENT: Overall finely made with delicate and well cut wheel-work and pinions. The going train has maintaining power. The clock currently ticks and strikes, the hammer spring appears to be later and requires adjustments or replacements as the hammer currently has a slight ‘bounce’. There are minor dents around the taper pin positions. The weights are also tarnished and have finger marks. There is some light surface dirt and dust to the motionwork overall which would benefit from a clean. The clock has not been tested for timekeeping or duration. We would recommend a service and adjustments.
With pendulum. Requires a winding key.
