The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
These elegant commodes are in good overall condition, with the inevitable marks, scratches and ware consistent with age and use. As stated in the cataloguing the commodes are matched, one with earlier dating and the other with a slightly later date in the 18th century. Both tops with some stains, one top with some larger ink stains to the back left, both commodes with some shrinkage and cracks as to be expected. The top of the older commode with horizontal shrinkage crack across the top, the sides with horizontal shrinkage crack by carrying handles and across the lower apron of the left side. Both lower drawers have been refitted.
The hardware appears original. As stated in the cataloguiong the door to the later commode has been replaced, likely in the 20th or 21st centuries. Some cracks to the interior of the older commode. Repairs to the crest of the waved gallery to the front right, to the back right, to the back left, and to the front left.
