The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
These beautiful tables are in very good overall condition. They are structurally stable and ready to place.
Overall there are minor inevitable scratches, marks, knocks, dents, wear and areas of discolouration to the veneers of the tops, consistent with age and use. There are a few more pronounced scratches in places.
The edge banding of the tops - particularly the satinwood - with some inevitable shrinkage cracking.
Some losses to the thin edge stringing of the tops, notably to one table, approximately 40 cm. in length, as well as one or two other areas. The same table with a dent to the top near the front edge to the centre and a shrinkage crack coming in from the right edge towards the basket of flowers.
The marquetry and engraving has gently faded over time but retains much of its definition and differentiation in colour and design. The stained areas of the marquetry still discernible in places - particularly the greens and some of the red engraved areas. Some minor losses and repairs to the veneers, mostly to the back edges of the tops.
The tops are highly polished and there are some scratches to the polish which could be improved.
The brass edges are in good order and are fairly brightly gilded; one screw lacking to the front of one.
The giltwood areas have likely been re-gilded and there are traces of earlier layers in places including pinkish bole and yellow bole beneath. Chips and losses to the gilding in several places exposing both white gesso and timber. Some later retouches in gold paint. Some minor chips and losses to the carved elements overall; one table with slightly larger chip to the central tassle and the other table with a slightly larger chip to the tassle on the far left side of the table by the back edge.
The painted ovals are slightly dirty and would benefit from a light clean. One of the ovals with slight horizontal crack appearing from the right side towards the centre, along the lines of construction.
As catalogued the bases are later - when the tables were sold in 1925 they did not have bases - and are in good order overall with minor scratches, marks, knocks and wear.
