A PAIR OF NAPOLEON III ORMOLU, PATINATED BRONZE AND TOLE-PEINT JARDINIERES

The Parisian fondeur and doreur Henri Picard was based at 6 rue Jarente in 1831, moving to 10 rue de la Perle in 1839 where he remained until 1864. His firm worked on the petits appartements of Emperor Napoléon III at the Louvre, and was known for its fine quality production of pièces de table and garnitures de cheminée.
A single jardinière of identical form stamped by Picard with a patinated-bronze dish was sold Christie's, New York, 21-22 October 2010, lot 473 ($56,250). A pair of unattributed atheniennes of similar design was offered 'M&N Uzal: 19th Century Excellence'; Sotheby's, London, 28 October 2009, lot 52.
