The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This pair of vases have suffered damage and restoration to the handles and feet where one would expect items of this age to have faults. The areas of restoration have been restored and are of reasonable appearance although the vase with St Bartholomew does require some attention to the tails of one handle.
The vase with the adoration of the shepherds Both heads of the handles have been broken through the neck and restored, further restoration to left handle’s left breast. A restored crack to a section at the base of the neck. Some minor restoration to the tops of the wings of the right handle. Some overpainting to the underside of the rim, probably covering some chipping and infilling. The foot has been restored and overpainted, the extent of the overpainting means that it is difficult to determine what damage it covers, however it appears to be original pieces.
The companion vase has more damage and restoration to the handles with apparently more losses, the losses to the right head are notable and have been replaced with plaster and overpainted. Both handles have more significant overpainting to the bodies and heads of the figures, the right handle has notable losses and repaired sections to the serpentine tails of the figure. Noticeable overpainting to the rim and neck, probably disguising breaks and repairs although original pieces appear to have been used. Again the foot has been overpainted covering some areas of damage which are difficult to determine accurately. There is a band of resin around the edge of both feet.
