The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This writing-table is in good 'country house' condition.
There are the inevitable dents, marks, chips and scratches consistent with age and use.
When this writing-table was last sold at Christie's, the purchase price was £21,850.
The leather writing-surface is fairly worn with a fairly large stain to one side, surface scratches and a 1 in. loss to the centre.
As stated in the cataloguing, the locks are stamped 'I. BRAMAH PATENT' beneath a crown and appear to be original. The lock to one central drawer is missing two screws so slightly loose. The castors also stamped 'GIBSONS PATENT BIRMT' and '374'.
The drawers have been reinforced with canvas strips to counteract shrinkage.
Structurally sound and ready to use.
