After the design by Alexandra Shchekotikhina-Pototskaya, the centre painted with books, a partially gilt hammer and sickle, the border and centre with an inscription in Russian 'Here is a Book, Hammer, and Sickle for All Those Who are Brave and Young at Heart / St.[ate] Publish.[er] 1921' amongst scattered leaves, marked under base with an Imperial Factory mark and blue overglaze hammer, sickle and cog, and the date '1921.', also inscribed in Russian 'After a des.[ing] by A. Shchekotikhina', and further signed with the artist's initials 'NB' for Nadezhda Blagoveschenskaia
