Lot Essay

For a discussion of the attribution of the 'y' mark to Yvernel, see David Peters, Decorator and Date Marks on 18th Century Vincennes and Sèvres: Supplement, Little Berkhamsted, 2012, p. 54, no. 2. Yvernel was active at Vincennes and Sèvres from 1750 to 1759 and his mark has been noted on approximately sixty-two pieces, ranging in date from 1753 to 1759. These are decorated with landscapes and occasionally with birds but include two 1753 assiettes à godrons, decorated with monochrome pink gardening and musical instruments in landscapes.
