The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall with some minor scuffs and scratches consistent with age, use, and storage, as noted without maker's mark, with the French Mercury head hallmark for silver made for export 1878-1973.
Place Spoons: With some minor wear to the edges of the bowls
- Dessert spoons: The gilding largely worn throughout, more so to some than others
- Egg spoons: Four with gilt bowls, with some wear to the gilding, the rest likely previously gilt
- Teaspoons and coffee spoons: With some minor wear to the gilding
- Ice cream spoons: Engraved on the bowls with scrolling acanthus, some minor wear to gilding
Place Forks: With some minor wear to the end tines and tips
- Dinner forks: With some tips slightly worn down
- Dessert forks: Previously gilt with some faint traces of gilding, though now largely worn off, some end tines slightly bent in
- Fish forks: Engraved on the tines with scrolling acanthus, some tines slightly pushed in or very slightly sharp
Place Knives: All with hollow handles, some handles with a few tiny pin dents, the blades with some minor scratches and a few tiny nicks to the edges, some steel blades with some areas of tarnish and wear
- Dinner knives: All with steel blades marked PARIS, A number with the blade slightly separated from the handle, though secure, seventeen with slightly differently shaped blades, four of those with a bend to the tip of the blade and one lacking the very tip, one with a differently shaped blade put on the handle backwards so monogram is not facing up when blade is facing left
- Fish knives: The silver blades engraved with scrolling acanthus
- Cheese knives: All with steel blades marked PARIS, seven of the blades slightly separated from the handle, but secure
- Dessert knives: All with gilt handles, thirteen with silver-gilt blades, six with replaced steel blades
Servers:
- Salad serving sets: One pair with gilt bowls, the forks with some wear and minor bends to tines
- Fish serving sets: Pierced and chased with scrolling acanthus, some minor wear to tips of tines and blades
- Asparagus servers: Pierced and chased with scrolling acanthus
- Cream ladles: Some minor wear to the gilding, one with a minor bruise near the mark
- Ice cream slices: As noted in two forms, all engraved with scrolling acanthus, some wear to the gilding, some wear to the tips
- Hor d'ouerves servers: The fork and knife engraved with scrolling acanthus, the fork with bends to tines
Compote spoons: Some wear to the gilding on one, the other with the gilding almost completely worn away
- Berry spoons, sugar spoons and sugar tongs: Some minor wear to the gilding
Chest: Overall with nicks, marks, and scratches as to be expected, with brass handles to each side, the hinged cover and double-hinged front doors opening to reveal six slide-out fitted trays, the cover with a brass shield-form plaque engraved with the same monogram as found applied to the flatware, with a crack the width of the cover just below the plaque, the left front door with one board slightly separating, but secure, the lock plates to the doors likely later replacements as evidenced by the rectangular openings visible behind them, and likely lacking ring pulls, lacking keys, the left side of the chest slightly pulling away so the upper trays don't perfectly slide onto their runners, the trays with brass pull handles to the front, the interior lined with cream velvet with the slots identified with French labels in gilt lettering on brown leather, the interior overall with some wear, fading, and staining as to be expected.
