Lot Essay

This elegant side table, or pier table, exhibits a particular appreciation for sophisticated ornamentation. It is conceived in the French neoclassical style which was popularized in England in the 1780s by architect Henry Holland (1745-1806) and the Francophile circle of the Prince of Wales, later George IV (1762-1830).
