The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The marble and stone with natural inclusions. With light scattered surface wear, some nicks, and 'nibbles' to edges.
Mottled siena marble example: 131⁄4 in. high, 37⁄8 in. square
- The obelisk detached from the base, stable when placed. With a repaired break across the tip of obelisk. The central piece of agate on base with scattered repaired breaks, some small losses including along the base and infilled repair. The pink agate plinth with some surface abrasions and subsequent small chipped losses. The top of plinth appears to be off and reglued.
The rosso antico example: 161⁄2 in. high, 41⁄2 in. square
- With some a repaired break across the top of obelisk to one of the corners. With restoration and associate overpaint to the red plinth below obelisk. With repaired breaks and associated infilled repair to all four corners of the white marble plinth. The gilt metal supports with some tarnish and oxidation.
The striped specimen marble example:
- With two repaired breaks to the obelisk and some infilled restoration. The tip of the obelisk dulled at edges. With a repaired break to one corner of red mottled marble plinth. With a repaired break to the red marble columnar support, and further repaired crack to white marble plinth underneath and with some glue residue. With remnants of a paper sticker to red marble column.
The two black marble examples: Overall with some scattered small nicks and 'nibbles' to edges. - One 191⁄4 in. high, 5 in. square. With an etched inscription: one reads "MODEL OF THE ONLY OBELISK NOW STANDING AT HELIOPOLIS (THEON OF THE SCRIPTURES) ERECTED BY OSORTSEEN THE FIRST THE EARLIEST OF THE PHAROHS WHOS NAME IS FOUND IN HIEROGLYPHICS." The obelisk has been off and reglued to the base, now very slightly askew. With some light surface scratching and with a small nick to the edge on the lower portion of obelisk. With a minor repair to the plinth under the obelisk.
- The other 19 in. high, 5 in. square. With an etched inscription: one reads "MODEL OF ONE OF THE OBELISKS IN ZAN (OR GOSHEN) BY RAMSES THE SECOND THE MOST MIGHTY OF THE PHAROHS AND UNDER WHOM THE EXODUS IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE TAKEN PLACE." With a repaired break with some associated cracks and infilled repair to the center of the obelisk; with a further crack near the base of the obelisk.
The marmo rosso bath: 41⁄2 in. high, 111⁄4 in. wide, 47⁄8 in. deep
- With some 'nibbles' and small chipped losses, primarily along the edges of the tub, and including to one of the drop ring handles. With minor restorations to two corners on the black plinth. With a slight build up of surface dirt to the paw feet.
