KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Presenting well overall with some minor imperfections, in the making, including scattered small firing lines and cracks, most prominently at the undersides, and scattered kiln spots, the largest at the plinth base to one of the smallest pair; scattered minor scratches, rubbing, wear and small chips and minute glaze flakes to the surfaces, consistent with age and handling; further measurements and condition details enumerated below:

The tallest pair-- 13¹⁄₄ in. (33.7 cm.) high; each with some restoration to the neck and rim of his vase; the boy with an infant at his proper right side with an intrinsic firing crack, in the making, at the front of the plinth base and a faint hairline diagonally across its underside; his companion with some restoration to his top-knots and to a chip at the proper right lower edge of his plinth.

The middle-sized pair-- 11¹⁄₄ in. (28.6 cm.) high; each with intrinsic firing cracks to the underside and some scattered glaze gaps, also in the making, where the enamel was then painted onto the unglazed body; each with some restoration to his lotus and the neck and rim of his vase, one of the green lotus leaves restored with brown overpaint; this boy also with two small flat chips to upper corners of the base; his companion with some restoration to his top-knots, and a chip to the lower edge of his base.

The single boy-- 11¹⁄₄ in. (28.6 cm.) high; an intrinsic firing crack to the underside, a firing line to his upper hand and some scattered glaze gaps, also in the making, where the enamel was then painted onto the unglazed body; some restoration to his top-knots, the lotus bud and the tip of the lotus leaf; some small chips surrounding the vent-hole at his back; the same hole issuing two hairlines downward (the shorter, approx. ¹⁄₄ in. long; the longer, approx. 2¹⁄₄ in.); a further short hairline (approx. ³⁄₈ in. long) at the back of his neck.

The shortest pair-- 10¹⁄₂ in. (26.7 cm.) high; each with some chips around the vent-hole at its underside; a flat glaze chip (approx. ¹⁄₄ in diameter) to the painted crane at the tunic of the boy holding his vase at his proper right side; the same boy with an illegible inscription in red at his underside; his companion with a small gap at the stem of his lotus-bud; each boy numbered '1' or '2' at the underside in black.
