The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Presenting well overall; a few minor intrinsic flaws, in the making, including some black kiln specks to all, and a firing crack, approx. 11⁄2 in. long, to the underside of the cover rim (not visible when placed); some light scratches and wear throughout, consistent with age and handling. Further details about each component enumerated below.
The cover: small losses to the bird and flower petals, including a tiny loss at the very tip of the beak, three of the bird's toes, and restoration to two of the toes at its proper right foot; a shallow chip (approx. 3⁄8 in. long) to the rim at the 4 o'clock position, the chip surrounded by regilding of a slightly duller tone than the original gilding.
The tureen body: a chip to the rim at one side and a shallow chip to the foot at the other side (each approx. 3⁄8 in. long), each surrounded by a small area of old overpainting which has slightly yellowed; each handle with tiny ships along its upper edge, one also with a restuck shallow chip to its scroll terminal, the other also with restoration to the end of its scroll terminal.
The stand: minor rubbing to the gilt at the rim and handles, consistent with handling by these areas.
