Finely painted and hand-tooled in white slip with a maiden in a diaphanous gown, seated in a klismos chair and teaching a winged putto to read from a large codex, the reverse with an inkwell and quill wreathed in laurel and above a palm, surrounded by tomes and book-leaves, on a fixed and pierced gilt stand

Lot Essay

A sketch in Solon's illustrated journal that dates between 11 January 1895 and 11 February 1895 appears to correspond with the present vase. Solon captions it as "une bouteille chinoise Vert bl., La lesson."
