A related example featuring a virtually identical rosette-headed Corinthian column and a sunflower-decorated stepped plinth is in the château de Fontainebleau and illustrated in G. Henriot, Le Luminaire de la renaissance au XIXème siècle, Paris, 1933, pl. 202, no.4, while a further related example is illustrated in C. Bizot, Mobilier Directoire et Empire, Paris, 1976, p.71.

David Kirkpatrick Este Bruce (1898-1977) served as ambassador to France from 1949 to 1952, West Germany from 1957 to 1959 and the United Kingdom from 1961 to 1969.
