Claude Chevigny, maître in 1768.
Claude Chevigny worked from his workshop on the rue de Cléry, Paris, during the last quarter of the eighteenth century and specialized in luxury seat furniture for the French nobility. Among his notable commissions are those for the Château de Chanteloup for the duc de Choiseul and the Château de Modave in Belgium for the duc de Montmorency. He also counted the duchesse d'Enville, the duc de Penthièvre, mademoiselle Guimard, and the marquis de Paulmy among his clients. Chevigny's seat furniture are usually constructed of walnut, a mark in itself of great quality.
