The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall with minor rubbing, oxidation and surface dirt to gilding as expected. Regilt with traces of the original mercury gilding. Soft, attractive tone to gilding. Previously electrified (not drilled) and with associated glue deposits from the wiring. When sold previously, non-invasive XRF testing indicated that the bronze alloy is of a composition consistent with work produced in the early eighteenth century. The nozzles are not cast in two sections as would be expected in this period and are very smoothly cast to the interior indicating they may be well-matched replacements. The reverse with signs of being an 18th century after-cast.
