Lot Essay

Silvestre Zamboni was born in the Domodossola region of Northern Italy. He emigrated to Argentina in 1856 and in 1860 opened a blacksmithing firm with his three sons. began constructing machinery and engines before expanding their production to include ornamental ironwork including gates. One of their most notable commissions is the set of gates at the main entrance of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange () in Buenos Aires, completed in 1916 under the direction of Norwegian-Argentine architect Alejandro Christophersen.
