Lot Essay

Impeccable taste and a discerning eye for quality were driving factors of this private collection assembled by Billie Lou and Richard D. Wood. The couple had a deep appreciation for English, European and Asian history and travelled extensively for work and pleasure. They delighted in seeking out opportunities to acquire unique items for their collection of art and antiques, including an exquisite group of Chinese reverse glass paintings. These were initially an interest of Billie Lou, but Richard soon joined in the hunt as he came to appreciate the unique skill required to create them. Their love for each other, and the enduring beauty of these rare finds will resonate through the years to come. Christie’s is honored to bring these spectacular pieces to market to be curated into new collections and appreciated with the same level of passionate stewardship.
