The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
In good decorative condition and ready to place. With very nice complex marquetry panels. With traces of polychrome decoration throughout. With the expected light nicks, marks and faint scratches consistent with age and use. The veneer with some light lifting, cracking, small losses and associated infill, as to be expected, primarily to the sides and at corners. With repairs to the uprights on the hood. With several scattered shrinkage cracks, noticibly one in the upper quadrant. The border of the central panel with scattered repairs. The hinges later. With some plugged holes to the reverse from previous wall stabilization. With one case key. Please note Christie's does not gurantee the working order of clock movements. This lot was inspected by clock restorer John Metcalfe who provided the following remarks: The movement dates from the early 18th century, all apsects of the movement are present and is a very nice example, the weights are apparently original.
The movement and clock face measures 10 1/2 in. high, 10 in. wide, 4 in. deep
