Enrico Astorri was born at St. Lazzaro Alberoni in 1858 and studied in Piacenza, Parma and Genoa. He eventually opened a studio in Milan, where he exhibited in 1886. The following year he exhibited in Venice and in 1889 in Munich. At the 1900 Paris Exposition he was awarded the gold medal for La Fileuse Arabe. His works are preserved in the Museo de Piacenza and the Museo Civico Revoltella in Trieste.

This marble group is in overall very good condition. There are a few surface marks and scratches, consistent with age and handling, such as to the figure's proper right arm. Her proper right index finger with a restored break.
The pedestal comprised of two sections. With some small chips to the edges, predominantly the base. There are a few larger chipped losses to the rims of the central stem, with an area of restoration to the spreading section beneath the carved arched border and associated infill which is only visible upon close examination. Structurally secure and ready to place.
