Shaped circular on four scroll and pad feet, with moulded border, engraved with a coat-of-arms within an elaborate scroll cartouche flanked by two partially draped demi-female figures with baskets of foliage on their heads, the cartouche Venus mask in base, the crest above partly enclosed beneath a tasselled canopy, marked underneath, further engraved 49=10

Lot Essay

The finely engraved and elaborate cartouche which surrounds the coat-of-arms is similar to the work of Joseph Sympson (fl.1710-1750), whose work is discussed by Charles Oman in English Engraved Silver: 1150-1900, London, 1978, p. 90.
