Of oval section, the body enamelled with sepia medallions on an oxblood brown ground with classical figures of Minerva and Hebe within a white enamelled beaded border, with translucent blue drapery above and translucent green laurel wreath below, the trilobed detachable stopper enamelled in translucent blue within a white frame

Lot Essay

This grisaille on a brown ground enamel decoration enjoyed great popularity in late 18th century London and is associated with enamellists such as James Morisset, Louis and Simon Augustin Toussaint, William Charron and, probably, Gabriel Wirgman.
