Lot Essay

This plate was part of a service made for Carlo Francesco Vincenzo Ferrero, Marchese d'Ormea (1680-1745), who was, amongst other roles, ambassador in Dresden under the King of Sardinia and was appointed Grand Chancellor of the Kingdom in 1742. It is possible that this service may have been a diplomatic gift by Augustus III to Ferrero, during the latter's time as ambassador.
