Lot Essay


Luiz Ferreira (1909-1994) was one of the most influential Portuguese silversmith of the second half of the 20th century working in Porto. Born in a family of silversmiths he upheld a tradition of classical aesthetic before developing his own style inpired by nature. Animals, sometimes set with semi-precious stones or other mediums became his trademark. Many animals were created in varying sizes and the swans became his most famous works. After his death in 1994, his sons perpetuated their father's tradtion and style.
