The arms are those of Wingfield quartering others, for Richard, 6th Viscount Powerscourt (1815-1844) of Powercourt, co. Wicklow. A British peer and Conservative Party politician, Powerscourt succeeded his father in the viscountcy in 1823 but as an Irish peer was not entitled to a seat in the House of Lords and was instead elected to the House of Commons for Bath in 1837 until 1841.
Lord Powerscourt married his first cousin Lady Elizabeth Frances Charlotte, daughter of Robert Jocelyn, 3rd Earl of Roden, in 1836 and the salver was probably commissioned to mark the occasion.
